The SanDow Way™

How We Work. How We Treat People. How We Win.

A Message from Leadership

SanDow Construction was built deliberately—project by project, decision by decision—by people who believed that professionalism, integrity, and hard work still matter. This document defines The SanDow Way. It is not aspirational language or corporate theory. It reflects how this company was built, how it operates today, and how it will continue to grow. Our brand promise is simple and direct: Responsive. Safe. Proven. These are not just words; they are the standard we live by and the measure of our success. As SanDow enters its next chapter—including employee ownership—this culture becomes even more important. Growth will never come at the expense of our values. Those principles are not negotiable. The SanDow Way is our standard.

Our Origin: Built on Trust, Discipline, and Shared Effort

SanDow Construction was founded in 2011 to seize the opportunities created by the federal government’s expansion of programs for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses. The name—SanDow—represents its founders, Santiago & Downey, but its foundation rests on a much deeper commitment to trust, discipline, and shared effort. From the beginning, a small, dedicated group of individuals built this company from the ground up: Ricardo Santiago, Andre Downey, Kasmera Downey, Debbie Dunkes, Anibal Orellana, Glenda Mejia, and the dedicated field crews who shared a belief in doing work the right way. In the early years, the focus was on small projects, executed with a level of professionalism, competitiveness, and pride that set the standard for everything to come. By 2018, SanDow had completed more than six hundred projects. In 2012, the company made a defining move by successfully filing and winning its first GAO protest against the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). This victory was a clear statement: SanDow understood the rules of federal contracting and was prepared to stand its ground. Today, SanDow continues to work for the DOL, a testament to the enduring strength of that commitment. To date, SanDow has completed over 2,100 projects and holds a Secret Facility Clearance, a reflection of the deep trust placed in us by the U.S. Government.

The SanDow Way — Our Core Values: R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

The SanDow Way is defined by a single word that guides our actions, decisions, and interactions every day: RESPECT. These are not just words on a page; they are the operating system of our company.

Responsive

What It Means for Us

In federal contracting, responsiveness matters. It reflects respect and professionalism. At SanDow, calls are returned, emails are answered, and issues are addressed quickly and honestly.

In Action

Acknowledging receipt of an email, even if we do not have an immediate answer. Proactively communicating potential issues to our clients. Being available and accessible to our team and our partners.

Excellence

We do not cut corners. We do not accept “good enough.” Excellence is our signature, and it means doing the work correctly the first time, maintaining exact standards in the field and the office, and taking pride in the outcomes we deliver.

Double-checking our work. Maintaining a clean and organized job site. Investing in the right tools and training. Celebrating a job well done.

Safety

Safety is not a priority; it is a precondition. It is the foundation of everything we do. We are committed to creating a zero-incident work environment where every employee goes home safely every day.

Holding daily safety briefings, “toolbox talks”. Empowering every employee to stop work if they see an unsafe condition. Investing in the best safety equipment and training.

  • Field Crews Deserve Respect and Support: Our field crews are the heart of our company. They are on the front lines every day, and they deserve our utmost respect and support. We are committed to providing them with a safe work environment, the right tools and resources, and the recognition they deserve.

We are committed to creating a supportive and rewarding work environment where our employees can thrive both personally and professionally. Our investment in our people goes beyond a paycheck; it is about creating a culture of well-being, growth, and mutual respect. Ownership Mentality — Our Future is Shared Success

SanDow is preparing to transition to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) beginning in 2026. This is more than just a retirement plan; it is a fundamental shift in how we operate and a powerful affirmation of our belief that people build companies. As employee-owners, we will all have a direct stake in the success of the company, and we will all share in the rewards of our collective efforts. Ownership at SanDow means:

  • Understanding How the Business Works: We are committed to financial transparency and education through The Great Game of Business. We will provide our employee-owners with the information and training they need to understand how our business operates, how we make money, and how their actions impact our bottom line.
  • Thinking Beyond Individual Roles: As employee-owners, we will be challenged to think like owners. This means looking for opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and innovate. It means taking initiative, solving problems, and holding ourselves and each other accountable for our performance.
  • Sharing in the Success We Collectively Create: The ESOP is a powerful tool for building longterm wealth for our employees. As the company grows and prospers, so will the value of our employee-owners’ shares. We are all in this together, and we will all share in the success we create.

This transition to employee ownership is the next logical step in the evolution of The SanDow Way. It is a commitment to our people, our culture, and our future. It is a declaration that we are not just building a company; we are building a legacy.

SanDow uses modern technology and systems to deliver better outcomes while meeting strict federal compliance and security requirements. Our Secret Facility Clearance is a responsibility we take seriously. Trust is earned daily through disciplined execution.
